The Grove Seniors Village is actively searching for suppliers of hand sanitizers, surface disinfectants and wipes, and protective masks to assist in preventing infection within our community. Alternatives to commercial products can be formulated by individuals as follows:
Hand Sanitizer - Hand sanitizer can easily be mixed at home and dispensed by any pump bottle by mixing 2/3 cup of at least 70% rubbing alchohol (isopropyl alchohol) and then adding in a bowl 1/3 cup of aloe vera gel. Mix well and dispense using any pump bottle. Do not leave uncovered as the alchohol will evaporate.
Spray Cleaner - 1/3 cup bleach per 1 gallon of water OR 2 tablespoons bleach per 1 quart water. This will give you a 1000+ ppm disinfecting solution. After cleaning the area with detergent, spray or wipe with surfaces with the disinfectant. Make sure to allow surfaces to fully air dry. Drench a facecloth with this solution to use instead of purchased wipes.
Hard surfaces can be effectively cleaned with any household surface cleaner or soap and water. Kitchen and bathroom counters should be cleaned at least three times per day.
